Kids

Fishing is a fun and lifelong hobby. We want to see many kids and their families catching their first fish and enjoying our amazing waterways across Victoria through fishing.

Not sure where to start? There are many resources and information around to help you get started with fishing. Many clubs and organisations, including the Victorian Fisheries Authority regularly run β€˜learn how to fish’ sessions throughout the year. On National Gone Fishing Day (gonefishingday.org) in October there are a multitude of events happening across Victoria on the day.

FISHCARE VICTORIA

Fishcare Victoria (fishcare.org.au) conduct programs in schools and community about showing children how to fish sustainably and responsibly. They have compiled some good tips to help with your fishing from how to cast, rig your line, bait your hook and importantly have a safe time while are out fishing.

FAMILY FISHING LAKES

Did you know that waters across Victoria are specifically stocked with catchable size fish? These are called Family Fishing Lakes. They are an affordable and perfect spot to head off for a fish on the weekend or during the school holidays. To find out where your nearest Family Fishing Lakes visit the Victorian Fishing Authority website.
