Lake Eildon Fixed River Marker Trial

The Victorian Fisheries Authority is currently seeking feedback on a Fisheries Notice proposal to trial a fixed marker in the Goulburn arm of Lake Eildon to better define the lake and river during the Murray cod and trout closed seasons and to reduce confusion and conflict amongst anglers.

Last month, VRFish attended a meeting at Snobs Creek hatchery with the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s fisheries managers, researchers and recreational fishers to discuss the proposal in detail.

Following a informative presentations and a discussion session, there was support for:

  • A fixed marker to be trialled in the Goulburn arm of Lake Eildon
  • The fixed marker to be located at Jamieson boat ramp

Using a fixed landmark, such as Jamieson boat ramp, was preferred as it provides a clear landmark for both boat and land-based users to identify as the river-lake boundary.

It’s proposed that the fixed marker is trialled over a 12 month period via a Fisheries Notice and for the trial to commence prior to Murray Cod closed season (1 September 2022).

The Victorian Fisheries Authority have informed us that the trial will be reviewed in 12 months’ time and they will be monitoring feedback from recfishers during that time.

To make a submission on the proposal, please email [email protected]. Submissions close 5pm, 31 July 2022.
