Marine Safety Regulations 2022

The Department of Transport have released the draft Marine Safety Regulations for public consultation.

The current Marine Safety Regulations 2012 will expire on 12 June 2023. The Department of Transport has extended the regulations for 12 months to allow for consultation on proposed changes prior to the final Regulations coming into effect.

Proposed as part of the draft Marine Safety Regulations 2022 include changes to:

  • Safety equipment including marine radios, life jackets and flares
  • Ensuring regulatory requirements align with the latest safety standards for vessel safety and equipment
  • Requirements for marine licenses, including options relating to licence length
  • Navigation lights
  • Vessel operations, in particular refuelling and restarting
  • Safety management system requirements for Pilotage Service Providers.
