Parks Victoria have released new schematic designs for the Altona Pier redevelopment following community consultation in mid-2020.
Based on community feedback, the new pier will feature a modern y-shaped pier head, a timber pier deck, lighting for pedestrian safety, an accessible lower landing to provide access to the water for swimming and boating, the pier head provides space for emergency vehicles to turn safely and ample space for fishing, boating and other users.
The pier design will be finalised in mid-2022. Construction is expected to commence late-2022 and finish in late 2023. It’s expected that access to the pier will be impacted during the construction process as existing timber will be assessed for reuse in the new pier.
