Closed Season for River Trout

It’s time to let the wild trout in our rivers and streams breed as Tuesday 15 June marked the start of the annual trout and salmonid closed season. The closed season applies to most Victorian rivers and streams and runs until 11:59pm on Friday 3 September.

During the closed season, recfishers can still get their trout fix as there are a number of year-round trout fisheries in Victoria. Trout can still be targeted in the Merri and Hopkins river, lakes and impoundments and sea-run trout rivers during the closed season.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The 2021 trout and salmon closed season on rivers and streams is from 12:01am on Tuesday 15 June until 11:59pm on Friday 3 September.
