Lock in Gone Fishing Day 2021

The Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation have announced the date for this year’s Gone Fishing Day, 10th October 2021, which coincides with World Mental Health Day.

Gone Fishing Day is Australia’s largest celebration of our favourite pastime – recreational fishing. It also provides an opportunity to highlight the many benefits of recreational fishing to an individual’s health and wellness.

Due to the ongoing pandemic in 2020, Gone Fishing Day went digital with fishers encouraged to participate in the day by downloading the Gone Fishing Day app and sharing their catches. Last year’s event reached 450,000 people on social media and more than 1,000 locations across the country got involved.

Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, this year’s Gone Fishing Day will showcase how recreational fishing can improve a person’s mental health and wellbeing by connecting with the environment.

Australians are being encouraged to participate on Sunday 10th October and to download the Gone Fishing Day App (available via Apple and Android) where participants can upload photos of their catch and location.
