Draft Commonwealth Fisheries Resource Sharing Framework

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is developing a Commonwealth fisheries resource sharing framework to outline the principles and approach to be applied by the Commonwealth when sharing fisheries resources across the fishing sectors, and between the Commonwealth and other Australian jurisdictions. This was a 2019 federal election commitment.

The department released a draft framework for a 4 week public consultation period, closing 22 September 2020.

Feedback can be provided via their engagement website, or directly to [email protected]

The department has undertaken stakeholder engagement over the past 12 months to inform development of the draft framework. This has included:

  • responses to an online survey in September/October 2019
  • a range of face-to-face meetings with stakeholders around Australia in late 2019 and early 2020.
  • feedback on a discussion paper released in March 2020
  • meetings with key stakeholder groups
