Goulburn to Murray Trade Rule Review

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) needs our input to proposed changes to the Goulburn to Murray trade rule.

Inter-valley trade, where enormous amounts of water are moved from the Goulburn river to the Murray River, has caused significant environmental damage to the lower Goulburn river and is impacting the fishery we have worked so hard to improve.

Victoria is exploring changes to operational rules and trade rules to ensure that water traded from the Goulburn to the Murray can be delivered without unacceptable impacts on the environment or the reliability of other entitlements.

DELWP has prepared a paper which is currently open for public consultation. Visit DELWP’s website to read the Goulburn to Murray trade rule review.

Drop us a line at [email protected]to submit any feedback. Consultation closes 1 June 2020.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The first document presents a number of worked examples to show how each trade rule option works over the water year under different scenarios. The second document provides background on water market rules and IVT accounts.
