Do you use a boat or paddle craft to fish the lower sections of the Yarra River? If so, we want to hear from you so that we can better plan and advocate for this iconic fishery into the future.
To do this, we are asking for your help in completing a survey. Your response to this survey will contribute to our understanding of fishing effort and behaviour on the river and assist waterway managers to plan for the needs and expectations of our sector.
The survey has 20 short questions and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. We encourage anyone who fishes the Yarra River to complete the survey – whether you are an avid fisher and fish regularly, or only fish occasionally.
In November 2019, Victoria’s independent Maritime safety regulator Maritime Safety Victoria (MSV) suspended consultation on new waterway rules for the lower Yarra River intended to better manage rowing and commercial operator traffic on the river. It was determined that recreational fishers were inadvertantly not considered as part of this proposal and waterway managers had little knowledge of on-water recreational fisher activity and effort on the lower Yarra River.
Only aggregated results will be published. Your individual responses will be kept confidential and your identity will not be matched against your responses. A copy of the findings of the research will be made available once complete.
Survey closes Friday 6th March 2020.
