Have Your Say on Abalone Quota Order and Size Limits Fisheries Notice

The Victorian Fisheries Authority have invited VRFish to comment on the Draft Further Abalone Quota Order (FAQO) and Size Limit Fisheries Notices (Easter Abalone Zone) for the 2020/21 abalone fishing season.

The total allowable commercial catch (TACC) for the Victorian abalone fishery is reviewed and set each year by 1 April through a Further Abalone Quota Order (FAQO). 

The below FAQO and Fisheries Notice were prepared following consultation with stakeholders in Mallacoota in November 2019.

The proposed total allowable commercial catch (TACC) and management arrangements for the Eastern abalone zone are:

  • a blacktop abalone TACC of 337.5 tonnes (a reduction of 8.0 tones from 2019/2020)
  • to implement mandatory closures when the upper limit for a spatial management unit or reef code is reached per the attached Fisheries Notice; and
  • to set legal minimum size
