Angler Logbook Goes Digital in GoFishVic App

The Victorian Fisheries Authority new GoFishVic app will replace the traditional angler logbooks that have been used to record fishers personal fishing activities since 1997.

This is a whole new way for us fishers to get involved, be citizen scientists and give back to the sport we love! By using the app, fishers will gain insights into the best fisheries in Victoria, keep track of their own fishing trips and provide valuable data back to the Victorian Fisheries Authority to best manage our fisheries.

The data collected from fishers will be used to help the Victorian Fisheries Authority assess the effectiveness of fish stocking and where other intervention may be needed to ensure a healthy fishery.

The new app will allow fishers to record their fishing trips including everything from the location, the fishing method, the size of their catch and how long is spent fishing. There is also an option to add additional notes, so you can note down your tactics from the day for future reference. Each user will have their own unique profile which features their personal fishing history.

Anglers will be able to record their fishing trips across 42 of Victoria’s most popular fisheries. The data collected through the app will assist in tracking the performance of these key fisheries and assist in planning for future stockings across these waters.

The Victorian Fisheries Authority have released their new GoFishVic app on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
