Fishing is for Everyone!

Fishing is one of the most popular recreational activities in Australia. So many of us are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get outdoors and wet a line at the drop of a hat. However, there are a number of barriers that stop people with disabilities from being able to do the same.

After many years of conducting informal all ability fishing clinics, Fishcare Victoria has received funding from recreational licence fees to run a structured “All Ability Clinics – Fishing is for Everyone!” program.

During the two year program, Fishcare will develop and trial a program to deliver 100 ‘fishing for all abilities clinics’ in the Kingston, Bayside, Hobsons Bay and Port Phillip Council areas.  The All Abilities Clinics kick off in January 2020.

The “All Ability Clinics – Fishing is for Everyone!” program will aim to:
• increase the active involvement of people with disabilities into recreational fishing through coordinated and regular fishing events
• partner with government, agencies, local councils and organisations and develop strategic cooperative arrangements
• promote responsible fishing practices as well as rules and regulations to participants and caregivers
• be advocates in promoting inclusive participation in recreational fishing
• be a key delivery partner in the State Government – Fishing for All initiative
