VRFish welcomes the announcement by Minister for Water Lisa Neville this week that the Victorian Government will be taking steps to cap the amount of water allowed to be sent down the mighty Goulburn River over summer as part of inter-valley water transfers.
Anglers have expressed their serious concerns with how high flows and associated cold water has been affecting fishing quality, not to mention its negative impact on the our fish’s food sources, migration and natural spawning of fish.
The high unseasonal flows also cause loads of damage to the banks and submerged vital infrastructure such as boat ramps. VRFish looks forward to working with Government in maintaining and improving our fantastic recreational fishery in the river.
The news clip below shows shows the range of issues high unseasonal flows have been impacting the Goulburn when the Minister for Water saw the damage first hand. It’s worth a look.
The water system is complex so if you want to know more about the finer details visit The Victorian Water Register’s website here.
