Barkers Creek Reservoir Open to Kayaks and Canoes

We know how important safe, easy and ongoing access is to our fishers so we’re pretty excited to see the rollout of on-water access to six Victorian reservoirs.

Labor’s Maree Edwards, Victorian Fisheries Authority and Coliban Water launched Barkers Creek Reservoir as the first of six reservoirs to allow kayaks and canoes on its waters meaning better access for our fishos! Not to mention they have all been recently stocked for the first time with native fish. In March, 30,000 golden perch fingerlings were stocked into Barkers Creek Reservoir. For our trout fishos, the reservoir is stocked in winter annually – this year it is set to increase from 5,000 to 10,000 stocked trout. If you ever needed an excuse to go out and buy a fishing kayak this is it!

On-water access was a key strategy of VRFish’s advocacy campaign. We are over the moon as part of Target One Million Phase 2, Labor has committed to non-powered access to more waterways, including Tullaroop, Lauriston, Hepburn, Upper Coliban and Malmsbury reservoirs.
