Lake Burrumbeet Futures Project

Lake Burrumbeet is a large freshwater lake 20km west of Ballarat. The area is rich in cultural heritage and environmental values and is popular for a range of recreational activities, including walking, camping, boating and fishing.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP) has launched the Lake Burrumbeet Futures Project. Together with project partners, they are asking community groups, residents and visitors to help shape a long-term community vision, which will guide future management arrangements for Lake Burrumbeet.

DELWP has established the Project Partner Group which includes representatives from the following organisations and community groups:

  • Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation
  • City of Ballarat
  • Country Fire Authority
  • Central Highlands Water
  • Federation University
  • Friends of Lake Burrumbeet Inc.
  • Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority
  • Lake Burrumbeet Ski Club
  • Parks Victoria
  • Victorian Fisheries Authority
  • DELWP

Since the project commenced in July 2018, DELWP has been gathering feedback from project partners about important issues, risks and opportunities relevant to Lake Burrumbeet. DELWP has also completed environmental values mapping and a cultural heritage assessment with Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation.

DEWLP are now consulting with community through this survey and asking how you currently use Lake Burrumbeet and your views about the future vision and management of Lake Burrumbeet. Find out more on the Engage Victoria website.
