VRFish Commends Labor’s Election Result

VRFish, the peak body representing Victoria’s 838,000 recreational fishers, congratulates the Andrews Labor Government on their resounding election result and look forward to working closely with them over the next four years to make fishing better.

VRFish Chairman, Mr. Rob Loats, said “Labor’s recreational fishing and boating policies will continue to provide exciting, new fishing opportunities for all in our sector.”

“We are delighted several of VRFish’s promoted policies have been adopted and we look forward to working with the Labor Government to implement these outstanding election commitments.”

In the lead up to the State Election, VRFish advocated for a new native fish hatchery, a compulsory buy-out of commercial net fishing in Gippsland Lakes and reforms boating infrastructure and funding.

Other priorities included maintaining and improving fish stocking numbers, access to reservoirs via electric motor craft, artificial reefs in the marine environment and improved access to inland fisheries.

“Access is a key issue facing our fishers, so Labor’s commitment to improve inland access and, most importantly, open up Licenced Crown Land for fishing and camping is a game-changer.”

“The level of investment and support by the Andrews Labor Government for recreational fishing will continue to herald Victoria as Australia’s leading fishing state to drop a line in.”

VRFish will continue to advocate for recreational fishing interests and support the implementation of positive policy and outcomes for our sector. This demonstrates the immense value of a strong and independent recreational fishing peak body.
