Ideas for Riparian Restoration in East Gippy

The East Gippsland CMA are calling for Expressions of Interest from recreational fishing groups to undertake river riparian improvements at our favourite fishing spots. This could include fencing off livestock, weed management or revegetation.

The riparian zone plays a key role in helping to maintain healthy fish habitat by providing shade and buffering water temperatures, filtering nutrients and sediments from catchment runoff, and it provides a source of food and instream habitat that our fish need to prosper. Well established and biodiverse riparian zones also greatly reduce erosion and help stabilize riverbanks, which provides resilience during fire and flood events.
