Is your club ready for Gone Fishing Day?

National Gone Fishing Day is our favourite day of the year! On Sunday 14 October 2018, it is the perfect opportunity to wet a line with your friends and family.  Gone Fishing Day is our symbolic day for recreational fishers to celebrate our favourite pastime. It is presented by the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF), an organisation that VRFish is proudly a member of.

We met with the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) earlier this year to start planning for Gone Fishing Day. We suggested having a specific funding scheme to make it easier and more streamlined for our fishing clubs and community groups to run some fantastic events on 14 October across Victoria. It is great to see that they have taken on that advice as the VFA will be offering Gone Fishing Day grants for up to 50 Victorian fishing clubs. It is time to start planning your events and apply for a $2000 grant to help your fishing club or community group run an event in your local area. The grant may be used for fishing rods, bait and tackle, food and drink, equipment hire, promotion, prizes and giveaways.

Applications are open from 1 July to 1 October 2018. For more information visit the Victorian Fisheries Authority Gone Fishing Day grants page.

As we get closer to the day, you will be able to find all Victorian events here. If you’re holding an event at your local fishing club, let VRFish know if we can be of any assistance.
