Kings Billabong Stocking First

The very first stocking of native fish has taken place at Kings Billabong on the eastern outskirts of Mildura. VRFish Chairman, Rob Loats was on hand to help with the fish release along with Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford, Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp and Aunty Janine Wilson from the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation.

20,000 Murray cod fingerlings went in today, with 20,000 golden perch and 40,000 silver perch going in later this week. These fish will take between 3-4 years before they reach a catchable size. Further stockings will occur next summer.

This stocking boost is great news for Victorian recreational fishers with another premier native fish fishery in the making. Kings Billabong is a beautiful and tranquil fishing spot and also a very special for the place for the Aboriginal people of the Millewa Mallee region.
