The Victorian Recreational Fishing Peak Body, VRFish, is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive Officer.
After a thorough and targeted recruitment process, VRFish Chair, Mr. Rob Loats today announced Mr. Mike Burgess as the new Executive Officer.
“The VRFish board determined that Mr. Burgess had the caliber of skills and experience necessary to help realise VRFish’s strategy and vision”, said Mr. Loats.
“Mike has 15 years’ experience in fisheries and natural resource management in both Western Australia and Victoria. He possesses exceptionally strong community engagement and communication skills that we feel are required grow VRFish and position the organisation for continued success.”
Mr Burgess said, “I am very excited to take on this important advocacy role at a time of tremendous recognition for the economic and social benefits of recreational fishing in Victoria. Support and participation by fishers in fish habitat improvement and enhancement efforts are also at an all-time high.”
“VRFish will continue to convey the ‘voice of reason’ in matters affecting the sustainability of fish stocks and those impacting on the quality of recreational fishing experiences, while asserting our growing role in co-management,” he said.
“I look forward to working closely with the VRFish Board and State Council to continue making fishing better for 838,000 Victorians that go out for a fish each year – and growing,” he said.
