Access for Recreational
Fishing
The purpose of this VRFish policy paper it to promote improved legal
access to fisheries, in particular, access over public land.
Fish Recovery and Relocation
Protocol
This policy paper is a joint policy between Department of Primary
Industries, Fisheries Victoria and VRFish. This policy is to aid the
decision process when a body of water is drying up and steps must be taken
to recover and relocate fish species listed on the Flora and Fauna Guarantee
Act 1998.
Inland Fishery
The prime objective of this VRFish policy paper is to provide a
management framework for the continued management of our recreational inland
fishery, it addresses four key areas:
-
The VRFish
Inland Policy - this policy covers stocking of all species of fish including
private waters.
-
The VRFish
Trout Policy -
wherever
possible, self-sustaining trout fisheries should be encouraged through
management plans to encourage and protect natural reproduction, by
maintenance and enhancement of natural habitat, and by controls to ensure
that levels of activity do not prejudice the integrity of wild populations.
This does not ignore the fact that there will be some trout fisheries where
natural reproduction cannot take place or is inadequate relative to fishing
pressures.
-
The VRFish
Native Fish Management Policy - VRFish will actively pursue habitat
restoration with the appropriate Government authorities and will lobby for
re-introduction programs that will assist in the restoration of naive fish
populations of Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act listed and/or nominated
species.
-
The VRFish
Environmental Flows Policy - VRFish recognises that the Government, via its
water management agencies, now appreciates the need of a base stream flow to
maintain existing ecosystem within streams.
Noxious Fish
Harvesting Policy
VRFish fully supports a management regime that excludes the setting of large
numbers of undesirable mesh nets in all of our valuable inland recreational
fishing waters for the harvesting of noxious fish species.
VRFish Angling
Competitions Policy
VRFish has prepared the following policy and
general guidance material for use by recreational angling associations,
clubs and individuals involved in the planning, establishment, conduct of,
and participation in, angling Competitions.
Snapper Policy
This
policy aims to both restore and retain the snapper population for future
generations.
VRFish
acknowledges that Victorian fishery management practices are dynamic and the
VRFish Policies should also be considered in the same manner. The content
contained within the Policies may no longer be relevant due to such changes
that may have occurred in management practices.
VRFish also have
developed a number of internal policies for the benefit of its Members.
